From the micro to the macro scale, the event questions the position of the body in space, its relationship with clothing and its environment, anticipating its future in a constantly evolving world. A compilation of more than 100 haute couture pieces made by Iris van Herpen enters into dialogue with contemporary artistic creations, coming from Collectif Mé, Wim Delvoye, Rogan Brown, Kate MccGwire, Damien Jalet, Kohei Nawa, Casey Curran, Jacques Rougerie, as well as as designs by Neri Oxman, Ren Ri, Ferruccio Laviani and Tomáš Libertíny, and elements from natural sciences such as corals or fossils, creating a singular resonance with historical pieces.

ZOOM ON WATER AND ILLUSIONS

Fluid, solid, gaseous, water frequently appears in Iris van Herpen's creations, becoming the central theme in 2010 with the " Crystallization ". An essential component of the human body, it emerges from its robes to transcend this elusive flow that constitutes our essence. At all scales, from the raindrop to the tsunami, as a poetic allegory or door to darkness, in the form of foam, crystallized liquid or waves, it evokes the fertile imagination of the designer.

From bubbles suspended in space to transparent splashes, mist, turquoise or ultramarine waves, the aquatic works of Iris van Herpen reveal the mysteries and metamorphic powers of water which are expressed through a variety of materials and techniques, from blown glass to thermoformed Plexiglas, from laser cutting to Suminagashi, a Japanese technique of marbled ink drawings.

The exhibition takes place in the fashion galleries Christine & Stephen A. Schwarzman.
