Underground exploration: The revealing exhibition of the metro and urban development in the era of the Grand Paris Express.


As the first stages of the deployment of the Grand Paris Express come to an end, the Cité de l'architecture and heritage, in collaboration with the Société du Grand Paris, unveil an innovative exhibition dedicated to to the metro, retracing its history and the urban changes that are intrinsic to it.

The colossal ongoing project of the Grand Paris Express represents an unprecedented opportunity to re-examine mobility on the scale of a territory, that of a metropolis of 12 million souls. Through the double loop of its route and the introduction of 4 new metro lines, this booming network irrigates the territories, forges new centers of activity, and generates new forms of public buildings, particularly with the aim of to optimize travel from suburb to suburb. This is an infrastructure that embodies Greater Paris, the contours of which have continued to evolve over a century of history. In total, sixty-eight new "stations", where architects and artists have joined forces to design a space serving citizens.


Let's immerse ourselves in mobility and urbanity, such is the ambition of this exhibition which interweaves the history of technology, visionary projects, and thefictional universe associated with the metro , thus propelling the visitor into a completely new mental representation of Greater Paris. The route fluidly highlights French know-how in the face of contemporary challenges of a resilient city and ecological transition.
